A while back, the OVO Squad took over Toronto's Eaton Center with billboards heralding new albums from DVSN, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Majid Jordan, & Roy Woods. While PND recently delivered a seven track EP, DVSN has been steady rolling out singles for a minute, building anticipation for his upcoming Morning After album. We've already got "Mood," last September, and before that came "Don't Choose." Now, the duo have come through for another glimpse at the album, the ambient, electronic-infused "P.O.V."
The duo, which consists of singer Daniel Daley and producer Nineteen85, have already taken an artistic approach in promoting the sun-kissed, nostalgic vibes of The Morning After. The album already boasts a cinematic (and visually stunning) album trailer, which you can check out here, if you haven't already peeped it. As for the track itself, the production boasts some hard-hitting kick drums, low-end synth, and Burial-esque vocal effects. In some ways, the vibe is musically chaotic, and in others, grounded in the simplicity of Daley's hypnotic vocals. By the time the subtle electric guitar comes in to close out the track, the journey has solidified itself as a beautifully produced affair.
Lyrically, DVSN pleads that a potential lover might show willingness to change her mind. In some ways, it's standard RnB fare, but DVSN manages to make the content sound fresh as hell. It's a testament to the production work of Nineteen85, who provides Daley's melody with ample space and the perfect amount of frenzied harmonies. Whoever arranged this track most definitely deserves a shout-out.
Remember, Morning After is set to drop on October 13th, so check back then for a wealth of new jams from DVSN. So far, the project is shaping up to be a low-key hit, and if you're down with RnB, this isn't one you'll want to miss.
