Don Q speaks on molding the sound on "Don Season 2," collaborations on the project and his first encounter with 50 Cent.
Don Q's been steadily waiting for his time to shine. By the time his labelmate A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie was getting ready to release his debut album, The Bigger Artist, Don Q just announced his new signing to Atlantic Records and re-released his 2017 mixtape as Corner Stories: Reloaded with additional tracks. Since then, he's been on a heavy grind and working with pretty much everyone in the game. Earlier this year, he released Don Talk and within a few months, he followed it up with Don Season 2 which dropped today. Don Q recently swung by our office to speak on his new project, his modern take on New York's sound and more.
Don Q is one of the artists who's maintaining the classic New York sound with a modern twist. The rapper's latest project features several prominent New York guests including 50 Cent who featured on "Yeah Yeah" with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and 50 Cent. Fif's been one of the few older artists who have embraced the younger generation. While Don Q admitted he didn't get the chance to get in the studio to record the track, he did speak on his first encounter with the legendary rapper.
"In 2016, when we were first running around trying to get on and shit, I had ran into [50 Cent] in the ThisIs50 building. I was in their doing an interview in there and he was walking around and shit. And he was like talking to me for an hour an shit," he said. "He's a good dude. He wants to see young n***as like make it and shit. If he sees you grindin' in shit, he gon' tell you keep going... He gon' tell you anything he want to tell you just to keep you motivated."
