In the past couple weeks there have been a number of high-profile mass killings in the US, including. There was one, though, that went a little under the radar, likely because of the enormity of the other two. Don Lemon, a journalist/anchor with CNN, was commenting on the shooting which occurred in a grocery store in Kentucky. A white man shot two black people. Lemon talked about peoples' often irrational response to these acts of terror. As quoted by The Washington Post: “I keep trying to point out to people not to demonize any one group or any one ethnicity. But we keep thinking that the biggest terror threat is something else — some people who are marching towards the border like it’s imminent,”
The nonviolent "caravan" has been labelled by Donald Trump as an angry mob full of thugs and gang members capable of defeating Mexico's army:
Don Lemon, and many other call this kind of rhetoric out as: 1. incorrect and 2. distracting from actual problems:
we have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them. There is no travel ban on them. There is no ban — you know, they had the Muslim ban. There is no white-guy ban. So what do we do about that?
A tough question to answer.
