While admittedly more hip-hop adjacent than anything, both Diplo and Mark Ronson have played a role in the culture. Diplo has worked with Travis Scott, Quavo, Kanye West, Chris Brown, M.I.A., Snoop Dogg, XXXTentacion, Lil Wayne, The Weeknd, Lil Yachty and more; English musician Mark Ronson has worked with A$AP Rocky, SZA, Ghostface Killah, the late Nate Dogg, Q-Tip, Mystikal, and Bruno Mars. Suffice it to say, the pair have been immersed in the world for a minute, and have each amassed respectable careers as solo artists and producers. Now, Diplo and Ronson have officially announced that they will be teaming up as Silk City, and making their live debut at the upcoming Governor's Ball taking place between June 1st and June 3rd.

While the announcement was only recently made official, Pitchfork has pointed out that Diplo had talked about this project in an 2017 GQ interview, stating " Me and Mark are trying to do something with disco music. … It’s something we talked about over the last year. Jack Ü was awesome, but it was very young. I want to do something that feels more my age. I feel like me and Mark can do something more sophisticated.”

It's being speculated that Silk City is named after a Philadelphia diner of the same name, where Diplo performed many times early in his career. There's no word on whether or not the duo will release any music prior, but it should be a lit performance either way. Stay tuned for more news on Diplo, Ronson, and Silk City.
