In a controversial move, Essence magazine featured a man on the cover of their magazine for Mother's Day. Yet, for a magazine that caters to a female demographic, most readers accepted seeing Sean "Diddy" Combs sharing the cover feature with his three daughters D'Lila, Jessie, and Chance. We previously reported on what Diddy had to say about holding down the Combs household without the help of his ex and mother of three of his biological children, Kim Porter, following her unexpected death in November 2018. Diddy has raised Quincy, Kim's son with Al B. Sure, and is also the father to Justin, whose mother is Misa Hylton, and to Chance, whose mother is Sarah Chapman.

He's jumped feet first into single dad mode and has shared more of his home life with fans on social media. His Instagram is filled with images and video clips of himself with his three teen daughters, including their epic moment when they danced backup for Diana Ross during the Motown legend's recent star-studded birthday. The music mogul told the magazine that his family has leaned on one another for support during their times of grieving, mourning, and celebrating Kim's life, but he says he still worries about his girls.

"One day I asked them how are they being so strong," he said. "They said that, in a weird way, their mother had taught them how to deal with death. About six years ago, Kim’s mother [Sarah Porter] was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and we moved her to L.A. She passed away about a year and a half later, so the girls saw their mother deal with losing her mother. Now, ironically, they are teaching me how to deal with Kim’s passing.

In the months following Kim's death, family, friends, and strangers shared kind messages about the former model and mother of three. "It’s a testament to who Kim was, how she touched people, the grace and poise she had, the way she changed a room as soon as she entered," Diddy said. "She was unforgettable. That day turned my world upside down."

He also shared a few of the last words he had with Kim. "Three days before she passed, she wasn’t feeling well. She had the flu, and she sent the kids over to my house so they wouldn’t get sick. One night I was checking on her, and she was like, 'Puffy, take care of my babies.' She actually said that to me before she died."
