Over two months removed from its release, Dave East's Black Rose mixtape continues to get hits on our official download page and "Free Charlie" makes it easy to see why. A soulful and lyrically proficient release, the track is everything hip-hop head's look for -- and often fail to find -- in rap music right on down to the official visual.
Decidedly minimalistic, the "Free Charlie" video has little in the way of well-framed photography. Polaroid pictures depicting Dave and Charlie pre-incarceration are contrasted with the exterior of prison walls and barbed wire. The video reminds viewers why a picture is worth a thousand words.
