Iman Shumpert was the only NBA player to release music yesterday. Before the marquee matchup between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trailblazers point guard Damian Lillard recorded a song and video titled “Bigger Than Us” as part of the NBA’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day observation.
While Shumpert’s tape is more of a party project, Dame D.O.L.L.A gives us a heartfelt record about social relations in America. The video opens with a newscast about Ferguson and looks at some of the sadder events of 2015, pairing them with signs that things are still changing for the better. Dame D.O.L.L.A. can definitely spit, too. Paul Rey handles the hook, and overall the song is a positive message for everyone.
