Jay-Z's boxing skills are placed under scrutiny.
What are the benefits of having access to an underground boxing club if the exploits will eventually be broadcast for the world to hear? We don't have the answers. Today, Dame Dash appeared on a podcast called "Van Lathan's Red Pill Podcast," where the subject turned to the days of New York amateur boxing sessions. Dame opens the discourse revealing his previous boxing habit, which was also shared by Jay-Z. Evidently, the Roc-A-Fella moguls also shared the ring with Heavy D and Q-Tip. Some serious hip-hop pedigree out there exchanging blows.
It wouldn't be a podcast called "The Red Pill" without some inevitable posturing. Dame quickly establishes that he had the nicest hands, but affirms that "Heavy could fight," despite the fact that they were in different weight classes. "The one that was really nice was Q-Tip. He could really fight," says Dame. "He's a nice guy, but he can fight." He then goes so far as to call up his old boxing coach, and before long, Van Lathan notices that nobody has been shouting out Jay. The coach soon explains why. "At first he couldn't [fight]," he explains. "He was like Pee-Wee Herman. At first he couldn't bust a grape...After a while he got it together."
By now, the two men are uproarious. The laughter only causes the coach to continue. "He couldn't bust a grape, a girl would've beat him up. First time I put him in the ring he got waxed. I thought he wasn't going to come back no more. But then he came back, and about three weeks later I put him in the ring with the same guy, and he did what he had to do."
The boxing talk takes place around the 37-minute mark of the podcast below. Video via TMZ.
