In a new interview, Dame Dash lashes out at Lyor Cohen and other executives who he calls "culture vultures" and says "ruined Roc-A-Fella."
Dame Dash has made more headlines in 2014 for his beefs with industry folks like Funkmaster Flex and Steve Stoute than he has for any music or business moves, and it seems he's continuing down that path. In a new interview with Vlad TV, he elaborated on his previous comments about Stoute, and implicated the former CEO of Warner Music Group (which controlled Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella), Lyor Cohen, in the downfall of Roc-A-Fella Records.
Citing Cohen's lack of ties to Hip-Hop (other than wanting to profit from it), Dash launched on the following tirade:
âMy beef was with Lyor cause I think heâs a fake CEO. And I think heâs fronting on my culture, but he canât front on anybody else. And Iâm calling him out publicly. And I want him to stop trying to rape my culture. Go make some money with some other people. Like stop having your agenda be Hip Hopâ¦It was like they have people that their job is to create beef. So, that they can monetize it. Pause. But they donât let their culture feel it. But they make money from it. And they canât make any money or get any respect in their culture. Thatâs why theyâre in our culture. Because the minute that they were allowed to be there, they would go. But they just canâtâ¦Never had a beef with Jay. Always with Lyor and his whole crew. Heâs the one that ruined Roc-A-Fella. Lyor Cohen.â
âOf course you donât see the puppetmaster,â he said. âSo, itâs time to see him. Bring em out. Call out Todd Moscowitzâ¦Ask them why they got their jobs. Thatâs what I want to see. How did Joie get the job president of urban? And what does that mean? I need to see credentials. And culturally anyone thatâs taking orders from that man should be asking âWhy should I be taking orders from you?â Periodâ¦âI donât care.â He said it. Joie said it. âI donât care.â âHow you feel about the culture?â âI donât care.â âHow do you feel that someone relevant from the culture thinks youâre robbing it?â âI donât care.â And nobodyâs gonna question that? Aight. Thatâs why Iâm Dame. Iâll just continue to be Dame. Iâmma have fun being Dameâ¦Too much divide and conquer. So, thatâs it, man. Iâm just saying reverse the prospective. Letâs stop talking about rappers beefing. Letâs start talking about these people and educating the culture.â
