As expected, Crazy Rich Asians has pulled out to finish at No. 1 this weekend at the domestic box office. Per Variety, the film attracted the $35 million it was slated to make this weekend at 3,526 locations. It’s an incredible feat as it made nearly the same amount that it did in its debut weekend, dropping only about 6 percent for what many are calling an unprecedented weekend hold for a summer romantic comedy. Moreover, its Saturday pull of $10.3 million was the exact same number it put up last Saturday.

The film, directed by Jon M. Chu, the film is the first studio film in over 25 years to feature a predominantly Asian-American cast. In two weeks, the clip has racked up $76.8 million.

“Every now and then, all the stars align, and this is what happened here,” Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros.’ head of domestic distribution, says. “The word of mouth has just spread.”

It’s the third consecutive weekend that Warner Bros. holds the No. 1 slot at the U.S. box office and the second weekend in a row that it holds the top two spots as their shark thriller The Meg, co-produced with China Gravity, moves holds down at No. 2, earning $13.8 million in its third weekend.

At No. 3, you’ll find Melissa McCarthy’s black comedy The Happytime Murders, which opened up with a dismal $10 million in 3,256 locations, marking the lowest start for a film led by McCarthy, and it’s not particularly good news for film with a $40 million production budget
