Columbia University have a problem on their hands. A student was caught on video on their campus harassing another group of students by yelling all sorts of stuff at them, most of it white supremacist and all of it drunkenly slurred.

He said, among other things, that "Europeans invented the modern world" and that "we [Europeans] saved billions of people from starvation, we built modern civilization! White people are the best thing that ever happened to the world!" A stretch, to be sure. He also apparently followed the students and grabbed at them.

The Univeristy was quick to condemn the video, which has been viewed 2.4 million times at the time of writing. They released a statement online in which they "unequivocally denounce" the "deeply disturbing racially charged incident" and make a moral appeal to the students of Columbia to "demonstrate our core values," the same core values being critiqued by their more progressive students and even the one who posted the video: "This is the exact mentality that the core perpetuates."

University Senator Alfredo Dominguez summed up many of the students' views in this concise quote from the school's newspaper: “You can have arguments all you want about free speech and people being entitled to say what they want, but when that bubbles [into] assaulting black or brown people with that and then stalking them ... you’re getting into levels of hate crime and your speech being directly related to violence.”
