Ciara relayed her struggles in keeping with her pre-marital chastity in a tell-all interview with InStyle Magazine. The full editorial titled "Ciara is 1, 2 Stepping Back Into the Spotlight" explores the personal objectives that kept her away from her music, starting with the premarital vow she signed and ending in the birth of her daughter with husband Russell Wilson.

On the topic of her pseudo-religious vow to abstain from sex until she was officially married, CiCi admitted it "took a lot of prayer" to pull it off. "It was hard. I can’t lie," she also mentioned.

In truth, Ciara's decision wasn't really based on too many religious underpinnings, as she told InStyle that it actually came down to righting the wrongs of past relationship mistakes. "I really believe that when you focus on a friendship, you have the opportunity to build a strong foundation for a relationship," she admitted.

Back in January of 2017, CiCi told Cosmo South Africa that she couldn't have managed her new outlook without the guiding hand of her husband-to-be, whom she credits with instilling the winning perspective instrumental to her regaining her trust in men/love/romance.

"I have to give credit to my husband for sharing those views," she later noted during the InStyle interview. "It’s awesome how it all worked out." By all accounts, their experimentation with group celibacy is all but over, with the wedded couple fully-engaged in discovering each other's goodies, to quote the singer's checkered past.
