Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran's relationship has been hard to keep track of over the last few years. Feuds and reconciliations have been frequent, and have often taken place through quickly deleted Instagram comments. While the couple has not been together in over a year, their past continues to inspire drama, most recently resulting in a beef between Chris and Soulja Boy. While their history is pretty convoluted, we've attempted to map out a timeline of their very public on-and-off relationship. Check it out below.
2011: Chris Brown and Karrueche meet on one of Tran's styling jobs, and the two begin dating.
February 2012: Despite rumors of Chris Brown rekindling his relationship with Rihanna, it's reported that he and Tran are "doing quite well" and living together.
March 2012: Karrueche reportedly ups security following threats from Rihanna fans.
October 2012: Chris breaks things off to be "single," telling Us Weekly, "I love Karrueche very much but I don't want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I'd rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives." He then suggests he loves both Rihanna and Karrueche in a promo video. "Is there such thing as loving two people? I don't know if that's possible but for me I just feel like that."
May 2013: After Chris Brown and Rihanna's relationship fizzles out, he and Karrueche reportedly get back together in May 2013, just prior to Chris' 24th birthday. By the end of the month, they are living together again.
March 2014: After Chris spends time in rehab, where he may or may not have slept with another woman, a report suggested that Karrueche had dumped the singer. According to sources, the reason for the break-up was Chris' persistence in texting other women, and occurred a month prior to rumors of his rehab tryst when Tran caught a glimpse of his phone during a visit.
April 2014: Chris and Karrueche appear to be very much still together. Now in jail after being kicked out of rehab, Brown calls Karrueche to send a message to his fans, which she shared on Instagram. At the end of the conversation, he says "Most importantly … Karrueche, I love you."
August 1, 2014: A report claims that Karrueche has dumped Chris Brown after he "liked" two photos of himself and Rihanna together, posted by fans on Instagram. It also cites that the two were experiencing problems due to Chris' "immaturity," spending more time partying than making music. However, a secondary source claims Chris was the one who ended the relationship, on account of Karrueche sending photos to other men and discussing Chris in interviews.
August 17, 2014: The two are spotted being affectionate at a charity football game, and it's later reported that they're officially back together. The source claims that Karrueche was suspicious that Chris had hooked up with another woman at a yacht party, but now believed that he was in fact telling the truth about staying faithful.
December 5, 2014: During Power 196's Cali Christmas, Chris announces he's single, as well as exclaiming "fuck that bitch!" in reference to Karrueche. Later that night, he posts a photo with his arms around Kylie and Kendall Jenner, as well as Khloe Kardashian. Karrueche's response on Twitter:
December 8, 2014: Chris Brown offers an apology to Karrueche on Instagram following his rant. "Being young and dumb is one of my strong suits and emotional at best," he says. "I love hard and react impulsively when I'm hurt at times. I don't think social media is a place to air out or hash out personal problems and a nigga feel hella WACK for doing it. So I AM APOLOGIZING I live in a glass house and the same shit that makes me great also is my curse. Everybody know I love that girl. I don't care how my image my look to the public because I'm still gonna be the best at what I do. I just want baby girl to know I apologize!"
December 27, 2014: Chris and Karrueche reportedly decide to work things out after a Christmas Eve rendezvous at the Playhouse club. A few days later they're seen getting close at Sean Kingston's party.
March 4, 2015: When news gets out that Chris Brown is the father of a 9-month-old girl with another woman, Karrueche takes to Twitter to end things. "Listen. One can only take so much. The best of luck to Chris and his family. No baby drama for me."
March 7, 2015: Chris shames Karrueche for posting a picture of herself in a bikini to Instagram. "Thirst trap 101. continue to be a lady beautiful… U are perfect… Don’t let the thot form from anger," he writes, before deleting the comment.
March 29, 2015: Karrueche speaks openly about her former relationship with Chris in an interview with Iyanla Vanzan on OWN. She says that while she still loves Chris, she would not take him back ("No. Right now, I'm saying no"), as well as reflecting on his relationship with Rihanna that began behind her back, saying, "I was under the impression that it was a friend type of -- not a friend -- but it wasn’t what it became to be … I didn’t want to believe it."
May 25, 2015: After Karrueche takes a picture with model Tyson Beckford, Chris goes after Tyson on Twitter, writing, "U wanna keep walking them runways. I need ta legs for that. Keep playin' like I ain't wit the bullshit ... I'm done all this internet talking blood. Be in Vegas soon. Keep playin' I'ma fuck yo baby mama and whoop your child like it's mine."
June 4, 2015: Chris reportedly attempts to set up a meeting of reconciliation between himself and Karrueche. While initially against the idea, Tran agrees to meet with Chris at Norm's Diner, where they are said to have got into a yelling match. The two went their separate ways after the argument.
June 15, 2015: Chris Brown calls Karrueche out on Instagram for talking about him in interviews, to which Karrueche offered a level-headed response.
"First off @chrisbrownofficial you just did an interview w Ryan Seacrest in which you spoke about me," she wrote. "My interview w Access Hollywood was not entirely about you.. they asked a question and as a mature adult I answered. I'm not gonna shy away from something that I lived through. I'm talking about my life and experiences. I'm not speaking on you or bashing you (like I easily could). Don't be mad at me because our relationship is over due to your lack of loyalty. You know what's weak?? You forcing yourself into my car.. my broken window.. blowing up my phone.. trying to shower me w gifts.. Brown then backed down and offered somewhat of an apology to Tran: "I'm eternally thankful for you being in a part of my life. I've learned so much from you. I wish u nothing but happiness and the best. @karrueche all I was doing was trying to fight for the woman I love. ThanxI learned a lot."
October 8, 2015: In an interview with BBC, Karrueche reveals that her past relationship and public breakup with Chris Brown has made it harder to get work.
“A lot of people think I am a weak individual because of past situations, and when it comes to business, sometimes people don’t want to be involved with somebody like that. Which is understandable, but it sucks, because I’m not a weak person,” she says. "I used to date him, and now as I am growing into myself and maturing and getting my career together, I am starting to have my own name without having to be associated ... I feel like I shouldn't have to explain myself to anybody because this is my life and I can do whatever I want. A lot of people were like 'she's only famous because of Chris Brown.'"
March 11, 2016: After criticizing Karrueche's manager Jacob York, Chris refers to his ex as a "bitch" in an Instagram comment. Karrueche responds with some comments of her own, writing “calling me a bitch yet you’re screaming my name in a song about getting back together?” Later on, she shared some advice for Brown, “LIVE YOUR LIFE and be positive.” Chris then then sent some mixed messages where he wished the best for Tran, but suggested she only had a career because of her looks.
December 27, 2016: When Karrueche shares a photo of herself in a Sade t-shirt to Instagram, Chris Brown responds with a comment that suggests he wants her back.
January 3, 2017: Chris Brown reportedly threatens Soulja Boy after he "likes" and leaves a "heart eyes" emoji comment on Karrueche's post. Things escalate when the two begin to post videos dissing one another on Instagram, eventually leading to Karrueche offering a response. In the lengthy comment, she suggests that she's happy doing her own thing in 2017, and calls the beef between Chris Brown and Soulja "makes no sense."
Shortly thereafter, Chris offered his own response to Karrueche.
That's all so far... will history repeat itself in 2017? Or will these two finally go their separate ways? Only time will tell.
