The DMV has more than a few rappers right now that are putting on for their city, although it's safe to say most are straddling the underground, generally underrated, with small(er) but loyal followings. Chaz French fits the bill, as do artists like Goldlink, Phil Ade, Shy Glizzy and Jay IDK, all of whom Chaz has shown support for, on social media and beyond (beyond = IRL). Thus, not only are these artists' fanbases extremely loyal, these artists are loyal to each other-- they're not dragging each other down. Obviously, if we're talking DMV, Wale can't be left out of the conversation, but as a sizeably bigger artist than the ones previously mentioned, the context for him isn't the same.

Chaz, who is signed to Motown, delivered a stand-out album in July, although it flew under the radar for most (he did get a Pusha T shout out, which is nothing to scoff at). We're hoping that this new freestyle, which Chaz did off top at our NYC office, will encourage any hesitant listeners to return to True Colors, which boasted 17 tracks and collaborations with Shy Glizzy, BJ The Chicago Kid, Curren$y, Casey Veggies and more. He's followed it up with a music video for "Way Out" too, but apart from that, Chaz has been keeping a relatively low profile since the summer release, connecting with fans through live performances and social activity. It looks like he's getting the itch to drop more music though, he recently contemplated to his twitter followers, "Another album soon... yea ?"

While you wait on that, if you haven't been formally introduced to Chaz yet, consider this freestyle it. Chaz absolutely kills this light, jingly beat (production is handled by our in-house video editor and producer, Loa Gaze), with a song that'll have you feel like your sinking deep into a couch after an indica-heavy joint, while Chaz fills your mind with social awareness-- from low-income families, to drug usage and more.

Click play and let us know what you think. Check back in with us next Tuesday for Trae Tha Truth's HNHH Freestyle Session (#002).

Quotable Lyrics

Papa rather pop a pistol
Papa end up back in prison
Papa gotta beat the system
Mama suffer, mama struggle
Mama gotta be a Christian
Mama gotta make up for what Daddy couldn't did, or didn't
