Chance The Rapper Says It Wasn't Easy Turning Down Kanye West's Offer
Chance The Rapper and Kanye West have as strong a relationship as two A-list artists can have in hip-hop. Both rappers provided features on each other's intro tracks for The Life Of Pablo and Coloring Book, two of the best albums of the year. It's no surprise given the respect that Kanye West has for Chance that he would have liked to sign the Chicago rapper to GOOD Music.
As we all know at this point, Chance The Rapper is the Commander-In-Chief of artist independence, so he never accepted Kanye's offer, or any other for that matter. In a recent interview with ABC, Chance explained how difficult that conversation was. Here's an excerpt:
""It's not easy at all, definitely not telling Kanye ... It's definitely hard keeping that resistance, but I want to teach people that it's doable without ... I wanted to give the idea of freedom back to artists and one of the biggest things is control of how you release your music. So, streaming and free releases—I figured that'd be a good beacon to have people at least pick up on what i was doing as an independent artist."
