Grown Ass Kid

Chance The Rapper's throwaway tracks are better than most artist's singles.

We’re still vibing off the incredible Coloring Book mixtape from Chance The Rapper, and we already have the first track that didn’t make the mixtape. “Grown Ass Kid” features fellow Chicago natives Mick Jenkins and Alex Wiley.

The sound of the track fits perfectly with the rest of Coloring Book. Gospel-sounding vocal samples dip in and out of the beat as the three talented emcees take a turn on the mic. Cam O’Bi and Nascent put together the instrumental. Each artists’ lyrics poke fun at people who say the artists need to act more adult. It’s really a shame what gets left on the cutting room floor due to sample clearance issues.

Quotable Lyrics

Watch your tone folk, talking to grown folk
yeah you better stay chill, you were sounding like Tone Loc
Now watch how I move, different chapters
Decisions, missions, visit pastors
Everybody finally can say it out loud
my favorite rapper a Christian rapper
