C. Davis cites the "Golden Era" of rap as his main influence, but rather than reserving it for the early 90's, he gives the title to the late 90s to early 00s. As the nostalgia window shifts, we're sure to see many more "Golden Era"s, but Davis' idea of the ultimate age in rap music is a little more interesting that the traditionalist boom-bap sound. Considering he's from New York, it feels like a step forward.
