Coming off an 0-16 year, the Cleveland Browns and their rabid fan base are eager to taste victory for the first time since Week 16 of the 2016-17 NFL season. And when that time finally comes, Bud Light is prepared to help fans celebrate with free beer that has been locked up in "Victory Fridges" at 10 Cleveland-area bars.
According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, as soon as the Browns secure their first win of the season, the electromagnet that keeps the fridges locked will be turned off through a WiFi connection, opening all of them for fans to enjoy free of charge.
Bud Light's vice president of marketing, Andy Goeler, says that several of the eight feet tall "Victory Fridges," which hold about 200 16-ounce aluminum bottles each, will be stationed inside FirstEnergy Stadium, with the rest being dropped off around the city and in suburban areas, in places where patrons need to be 21 or older.
"Obviously, we are nowhere near satisfied with our win totals in recent seasons, and our fans deserve much better," said Browns chief operating officer Dave Jenkins, according to Rovell. "While some may characterize it as celebrating one victory, we view this as an opportunity to thank Browns fans for their unwavering support while also looking forward to our goal of rewarding Cleveland with a consistently winning football team."
The Browns' last win came against the then-San Diego Chargers on December 24, 2017, which happened to be their only win of the 2016-17 season. They'll open up the 2018-19 season at home against AFC North division rival Pittsburgh Steelers on September 9.
