The city honors both men for their community service.
It was a particularly big night at the SoSoSummer 17 concert for two individuals.
According to the Detroit News, hip-hop producer Jermaine Dupri and rapper Bow Wow were presented with the Spirit of Detroit Award on Friday morning in Detroit, both of whom were in town for that night’s show at the Fox Theatre. Detroit City Councilwoman Mary Sheffield presented each the award for community service, their work in stressing the importance of education and inspire young people to achieve greatness.
"Oftentimes we only see one side of hip hop or one side of the artist," Sheffield said, "but we don’t see the side where you’re giving back to the community." Jermaine posted a photo of the moment on his Instagram account, captioning the photo with Sheffield's words of praise.
