“Time has come for Me to tell all our Funkateers that I will Not be Playing Bass in Concerts anymore,” Bootsy announced via Facebook earlier this week. The 67-year-old bassist quickly reassured his fans that his music days aren't completely over as he still plans to continue recording music. He will also extend his legacy by mentoring young musicians.
“I have decided to become a Coach for up & coming Musicians,” he wrote. “I know u r Disappointed just think for a moment how I feel. Doc said to much pressure on my Inner-Ear & Right Hand. Yeah, I had to make up my Mind so I did. 2019 Sheriff Ping Ping Ping will continue to Funk from the Studio but Not Live playing Bass on Stage.”
Collins, who was known to have played for James Brown and as part of Parliament-Funkadelic before launching his own successful solo career, ended his message by asking his fans for their understanding. “I know u got question & I don’t have answers, maybe one day u to will understand. Just remember; That This Year will be the Funkiest Year of them All. Watch for it. Bootsy baby!!!”
Bootsy's latest collaborations include "After The Storm" with Kali Uchis and Tyler, The Creator, as well as some studio work with Dr. Dre.
