Earlier this week it was announced that director Danny Boyle would no longer be at the head of the Bond 25 installment because of “creative differences.” With the announcement, however, it was assumed that the show would still go on, experiencing no delays despite Boyle’s exit.
So much for wishful thinking.
In a new report published by The Hollywood Reporter, sources say that the November 2019 release date may very well get pushed back to 2020 in light of recent events. In this case it would be a late 2020 release as no Bond film has ever seen a summer release.
Allegedly, Boyle’s exit stemmed from differences with lead actor Daniel Craig and Bond producers, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. The schism reportedly began when Boyle requested that frequent collaborator John Hodge write the script. According to Telegraph, the duo, previously having worked on Trainspotting and T2 Trainspotting together, wanted to create a plot center on a “modern-day Cold War.” Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who wrote all Bond films featuring Daniel Craig including Casino Royale, Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre, had already penned a script for the 25th Bond movie. Theirs was eventually put aside to make room for Hodge’s.
"Craig has a big say in all the casting decisions,” the source told Telegraph. “None of the Bond girls have been chosen without his say so.”
Another source would ass that Boyle’s "insistence on bringing an entirely new team, including his established writing partner John Hodge, infuriated Bond producer Barbara Broccoli."
