The Sugarhill Gang's Big Bank Hank has died at the age of 57.
We are sad to report that Big Bank Hank (born Henry Jackson), founding member of seminal hip hop group The Sugar Hill Gang has died. Reports indicate that Hank lost his battle with cancer around 2AM this morning in the greater NYC area. He was 57.
The Sugarhill Gang are widely credited as being the first act to popularize hip hop with their immortal 1979 single "Rapper's Delight".
Fellow Sugarhill members Wonder Mike and Master Gee released a statement to TMZ, which reads So sad to hear of our brother's passing. Rest in peace Big Bank."
