Just a month after she caught fire for asserting that “women are the n-word of the world,” Bette Midler is right back in the middle of controversy after making remarks about Melania Trump’s semi-nude British GQ shoot from 2000.
Taking from the flight-themed element of the steamy shoot, Midler, tweeted out: The dry cleaning bill for the upholstery on Air Force One must be insane.”
Flipping Trump’s FLOTUS title, Midler added the hashtag “#FLOTITS.” Naturally, the joke wasn’t received as such by many with several users calling out Midler for her comments, accusing her “body shaming” and “bullying.”
“What a crass and inelegant remark,” writes one user. “Perhaps upbringing is harder to overcome than previously thought. Money hasn’t bought you class, Betty”
"My daughter and I thought you were an inspiration for all woman," added another, "we are saddened for what you’ve become."
"First and most she is now our first lady have some respect," one user directed. "if you cant say anything positive don't say anything at all... you are old enough to have learned from your life mistakes and experience... shame on you lady"
Other fans came to Bette’s support, voicing their own distaste for the president and his wife as one user tweets: “You’re getting a lot of flack for this tweet from fans. Not from this fan, I thought it was hysterical. Melania offers nothing for young women to inspire them.”
Bette Midler has not immediately responded to the backlash and at the time of this writing, her tweet is still up.
