For many actors, "Batman" would likely fall into the "dream role" category. One can brood, kick ass, don a costume, live lavish, romance models, exude badassery, hang out with Alfred, boss Robin around, have tete-a-tetes with iconic supervillains, and more. In that sense, the bat cowl will likely be sought for as long as studios continue to produce Batman films.
The beloved hero has already been brought to life by a variety of different actors, including Adam West, Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck, as well as vocal turns from Kevin Conroy and Will Arnett. Now, having turned in his last performance as the caped crusader, Ben Affleck opened up about the process of leaving Gotham City behind. As it happens, Affleck found one of the more difficult moments arrived upon explaining the transition to his 7-year-old son, Samuel.

"He took the news okay. He kind of understands that there's time for everything," Affleck said. "I just kinda stuck with like, you know, 'It was my turn and now it somebody else's turn.' Because he understands turn taking." As for the motivation behind going Bat-free, Affleck chalked it up to creative differences. After all, he was once meant to direct and star in a standalone Batman film, though he ultimately called it off.
"I was gonna direct [a Batman movie], but I couldn't figure out how to do it," explains Affleck. "I didn't love it enough. I tried to direct a version of it and worked with a really good screenwriter, but just couldn’t come up with a version, I couldn’t crack it,” Affleck said. "So I thought it was time to let someone else take a shot at it. They got some really good people so I’m excited."
