Ruby Rose made her debut as Batwoman in the Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds recently, but that was only the beginning for the actress. Batwoman is the first openly gay superhero in the Arrowverse, and was also DC's flagship LGBTQ character. Rose left Twitter when she was cast as the hero due to online trolls suggesting that her sexuality was only a farce. "Where on earth did 'Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can't be Batwoman' come from... has to be the funniest, most ridiculous thing I've ever read," she tweeted before shutting down her account. "I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with 'she's too gay'... How do y'all flip it like that. I didn't change." Now that she has debuted, the trolling has calmed down quite a bit.

According to The Hollywood Reportera pilot for Batwoman has gotten the green light at CW. It will undoubtedly be picked up by the network. The synopsis for the pilot episode goes as follows: "Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane [Rose] soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope." Emmy-winning Game of Thrones director David Nutter will be involved with the pilot.
