In the short span of just 11 days, Marvel’s latest film has added yet another peg to their place in history as "Avengers: Infinity War" crossed over the billion-dollar threshold, becoming the fastest film in history to do so. Its only competition was "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which accomplished the feat in 12 days.

This is now Marvel’s sixth film to make a billion dollars at the box office, joining the company of "The Avengers," "Iron Man 3," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Captain America: Civil War," and this year’s "Black Panther" film. Impressively enough, "Infinity War" has done all this without even hitting the Chinese box office, which is the second biggest film market in the world.

Last weekend, the film broke the record for the biggest global opening in film history, racking up an estimated $640.9 million worldwide with $252.8 million of that accounting for domestic sales in North America, granting Disney nine of the top ten biggest openings in North American history. It’s safe to say it’s a great time to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which holds its place as one of the more successful studios in the past decade, bringing in $15.3 billion globally.

With the help of "Infinity War," Marvel Studios has single-handedly boosted the North American box office, which was facing a down sloping trend in the face of the competition of on-demand streaming services. According to comScore, however, the North American box office experienced a 3% increase thanks to the big opening weekend of "Infinity War."
