August Alsina is quickly becoming one of the hottest names in R&B, though his latest single, "Hip-Hop", is named after the genre he was raised on and the spirit that drives him to this day. He was one of a couple of non-rappers on last year's XXL Freshmen cover, and rappers like Young Jeezy, Kevin Gates, and Kirko Bangz were all smart to hit him for features. His last album, Testimony, was one of our favorite R&B projects of 2014, and his latest single has given us early anticipation for his next album, whenever it may come.

Like the history of hip-hop, Alsina's life has been a battle of ups and downs and of victory and oppression. The never-give-up spirit of hip-hop has gotten him to where he is today, and "Hip-Hop" is his tribute.

Tell us what you think of the inspirational new single in the comments.
