On Vince Staples' "CNB," A$ton Matthews proved himself as the ScHoolboy Q to Vince's Kendrick Lamar, and incredibly energetic rapper who uses his voice as a weapon, always finding the right exclamation to fir the moment. His latest record, "CHI-CHI," once again showcases his gift for ad-libs, which don't feel like punch-ins as much as essential parts of the vocal performance. Which isn't to say Matthews isn't saying anything, when he launches into a slick double-time on the tracks final third, he proves his technical ability is on par with his vocal tics.
