A$AP Rocky's "Gunz N Butter" is a testament to the rapper's abstract eye.
Living crash test dummies. Slaughterhouses. The KKK. Sex. Meat. Gun violence. Police brutality. The imagery in A$AP Rocky's "Gunz N Butter" highlight the twisted brilliance of his visuals. Abstract yet strangely coherent, the latest chapter of Rocky's Testing video anthology finds the rapper exploring themes rather than a linear narrative; much of the work is thereby left for the viewer, who must soak in the visual feast with an open mind.
From a pure cinematography perspective, director James Mackel delivers plenty to admire. A shot of Rocky mounted atop a speeding car is particularly dope, as is the segment during the concert, in which crowd-surfing goes awry. Many have come to regard Flacko's visuals among the game's elite, and this late surge of Testing cuts is a further testament to that notion. We can only hope Rocky keeps the content coming. Check out the surreal, yet fascinating "Gunz N Butter" now.
