Only 3 months ago, celebrated celebrity chef and author Anthony Bourdain passed away leaving behind an immense legacy. Known and loved around the world for his endearingly honest, creative and culturally diverse forays into the world of food and the human condition, Bourdain accomplished many feats.
Despite his untimely passing, his work has not gone unrecognized and Bourdain has been honored with a staggering six Emmy awards at the annual Creative Arts Emmys for his critically acclaimed CNN show Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, as well as its digital spin-off. Bourdain’s awards honor his talents in various categories: picture editing for a non-fiction program, sound editing for a non-fiction program, sound mixing for a non-fiction program and writing for non-fiction program. Bourdain was awarded an additional accolade for best short-form non-fiction or reality for his series Anthony Bourdain: Explore Parts Unknown which gave viewers an intimate look into the chef’s travels. It comes as no surprise that these Emmys are not the chef’s first, as he has won a total of four awards in past years, with the most recent dating back to 2016 for best informational series or special.
Accepting the awards on his behalf were Bourdain’s peers and co-creators who took the opportunity to thank the public for their support. Executive producer Nathan Thornburgh had this to say: “The one thing about this loss is it’s not ours alone… everybody had a selfie with him, but more importantly I think everyone felt like he had spoken to them over the years and that’s helped a lot, to feel like we’re not alone.”
