The movie business is exactly that, a business, and many studios appear to have grown increasingly reluctant to take risks. As such, there has been an abundance of franchises, reboots, and remakes hitting theatres, reinforcing the notion that the consumer finds comfort in both familiarity and nostalgia. It's exactly that sort of combination that led to the creation of a G.I. Joe cinematic universe to begin with, one that is destined to continue with yet another upcoming chapter in the works.

While the next installment-- a spin-off film by the name of Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins-- is set to hit theatres in October, it has been reported that a follow-up to that is already in the early stages of development. Apparently, the studio has begun negotiations with the writers of Seberg, Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse. It's unclear as to whether this untitled fourth G.I. Joe movie will be another character-centric spin-off, or a continuation of the mainline story.

It's clear that both Paramount and Hasbro are putting a lot of faith in the success of their G.I. Joe franchise, and from the sound of it, the toy-turned-blockbuster will be around for some time to come. In the meantime, keep an eye out for Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins to hit theatres on October 23rd, starring Henry Golding in the titular role. What do you think of this series -- will you be checking out the next few movies?
