American actress Alia Shawkat is setting the record straight after finding herself the subject of some Hollywood-esque dating rumors involving Brad Pitt.
Rumors that the pair were a couple began in November when the two were spotted hanging out together at the “L.A. on Fire” art exhibition. Photos of the 31-year-old actress and Pitt at the event together went viral, and the rumor-mill went crazy.
“We’re not dating. We’re just friends,” the Arrested Development star told Vulture. “I’ve gotten press, but not like that. Not so uncontrollable.” The store admitted how shocked and slightly overwhelmed she was by how much she media coverage she was receiving because of the rumors.
“I was like, ‘I don’t believe this,'” she explained. “All my friends were like ‘What’s going on?’ and sending me photos. I just felt overwhelmed. It’s that feeling of being naked in school, like, ‘Oh my God, everyone’s looking at me.'”
The actress is set to star in a leading roll in the upcoming Hulu FX thriller series The Old Man. Pitt has not been romantically linked to anyone besides Shawkat since his 2016 split from Angelina Jolie. The couple was married for seven years before officially divorcing in 2019, and were together seven years before getting married.
