The FIRE EMOJI playlist is back to full capacity, no thanks to any one person. As per usual, our FIRE EMOJI is dedicated to "the week that was in hip-hop," to the limits our editorial staff is willing to weed out bad from the good releases, no stones left unturned. At the top of the week, Kodak Black gifted us with a full body of work, from the far reaches of his soul, and I don't throw S-word out there, as flippantly as a poet.

The soul-stirring cuts on Dying to Live are more digestible when you're giving the album a complete "spin," to convey a journey of some kind. That's why we included "MoshPit" and "Gnarly" on our list instead of splitting up the journey into easy parts. "Gnarly" might not be as cathartic a song as "Testimony" but it's the weekend, and we're here to wind down.

The other major release that got some love on EMOJI list was I Am > I Was, which as I've been told, is making believers out of rap fans that quote, unquote disliked 21 Savage before its release. We didn't feel it was right to "copy-paste" the whole thing onto our playlist, so we narrowed it down to three inclusions: "a lot," "all my friends," and "monster." A case could be made for at least a half-dozen other songs on the record.

Other artists that made a splash, albeit in shorter spurts, were: Nispey Hussle with "Perfect Timing," Montreal-based newcomers AlienEmoji with their 2nd single "FU&allofyourfriends," and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie with "Just Like Me" featuring Young Thug off the star-studded Hoodie SZN project.
