Young Thug Gets His Own Billboard In NYC
We already saw Young Thug confidently rock women's clothing a few weeks ago for Calvin Klein's Fall campaign, but we can’t say we saw this coming. On Thursday afternoon, Thugger posted a pic on his IG of a massive billboard hanging up in NYC of him rocking his new Calvin Klein wear. The caption simply just read “Jeffrey” NYC, which is the title named after his upcoming mixtape.
Usher, Young Thug & Gucci Mane Shoot Video For "No Limit"
It looks like Gucci Mane, Young Thug & Usher all linked up this week to shoot the official video for “No Limit.” Thanks to Gucci Mane & his girlfriend’s snapchat stories, footage has surfaced online of the ATL icons doing what they do best in some behind the scenes footage from on set. From what we can see, the upcoming video looks to feature a lot of art, gold, cash, jewelry, and even zebras for that matter. Gucci Mane can be seen rapping in a classroom full of women, while Usher shows off his dance moves in the clip.
No Sleep: Recapping Gucci Mane's 7 Weeks Of Freedom
It's Guwop season. The release of Gucci Mane from prison on May 26th was cause for celebration. No one celebrated more than Gucci himself. Largely confined to his Atlanta mansion, the big fella has spent his time marinating in the Southern sunshine by his backyard pool, chilling with his girlfriend, or cutting records in his home studio, the walls of which he has covered with raps he wrote while incarcerated. Click through the gallery to revisit everything Gucci has done since he got out. Everybody Looking out July 22.
Young Thug Goes In On His Baby Mama In Twitter Rant
It looks like Young Thug is having some baby mama drama. The rapper isn't shy about advertising his love for fiancee Jerrika Karlae on various social platforms, but his eleven children, who also make an appearance on Thug's social media every now and then, are from previous partners. It looks like one of Thug's baby mama has been stirring the pot, as Thug has taken to twitter to vent about her.
Top Tracks: July 11 - July 17
I'm not going to take the time to crunch all of the numbers for the 28 weeks of 2016 we've experienced thus far, but in terms of artists who show up most often in our weekly top ten tracks list, it's not even close. Drake is the clear victor, seeming to find a way on here every week. Second place is a little more murky.
Young Thug Previews A Few Monster Tracks Off "Jeffery," Dropping "Any Day Now"
UPDATE #2: Yet another snippet, and this one's produced by Goose (Wit Another One). Thugger's bringing out all of his secret weapons on Jeffery.
My Diamonds They Say Pikachu: 10 Pokemon References In Rap Songs
Whether or not you're playing, you've surely heard of Pokemon Go -- the latest addition to the Pokemon universe for iPhone and Android. The augmented reality game has already spawned countless memes, and strangely, a few instances of robberies, but for the most part, people seem to be loving their ability to catch Pokemon in the real world.
Young Thug Models Calvin Klein Womenswear In Fall 2016 Campaign
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Frank Ocean and Young Thug had been selected as models for Calvin Klein's Fall 2016 Global Campaign. The fashion house soon released a short ad in promotion of Thug's involvement in the campaign, and the video finds the boundary-pushing Atlanta rapper explaining his belief that "there's no such thing as gender." "You could be a gangster in a dress, you could be a gangster in baggy pants," he also said.
Young Thug's "Jeffery" Mixtape Is On The Way
Halfway through 2016, Young Thug has already released two projects (I'm Up and Slime Season 3), and promised a couple more (I Came From Nothing 4 and his debut album, Hy!£UN35), but today, he's given fans yet another title to anticipate -- Jeffery.
Gucci Mane Reveals "Everybody Looking" Tracklist
The tracklist for Gucci Mane's Everybody Looking has been made available courtesy of Amazon. The album comprises of 14 songs with features from Kanye West and Young Thug.
Frank Ocean & Young Thug To Appear In Calvin Klein Campaign
Frank Ocean has essentially been in hiding over the last couple of years, so when he popped up on Calvin Klein's Snapchat, it was a surprise to say the least. The brand announced the stars of its new campaign through the app, revealing that Young Thug would be a part of the ads as well, joining models like Kate Moss and Grace Coddington.
7 Rap Tributes To Lil Wayne & Cash Money
Lil Wayne has been rapping for close to two decades, and seeing that at on point during his very long career, he the biggest, most prolific, and arguably best rapper working, it's safe to say he's influenced many. Over the last few years, we've seen quite a few artists give it up for Lil Wayne and the whole Cash Money movement through musical tributes, and today we've selected a few of the more memorable instances of such. Click through the galleries to see some of the artists Wayne's music has touched, and be sure that his influence will be felt even more greatly in the coming years.
Top Tracks: June 27 - July 3
As opposed to a winter and spring that found a lot of repeat appearances in our Top Tracks list, summer's been more of a free-for-all, with quick week-to-week turnover as everyone seeks to land a summer anthem. Sure enough, we've only got two returning tracks from last week's list, and following another big recent trend in this feature, both involve Drake. Drizzy's got fingerprints on three of these ten tracks, as does Future, a sure sign that the What A Time To Be Alive team are still comfortably the hottest in the game.
4th Of July Playlist
However you may feel about the Fourth of July, chances are you'll be spending at least part of your day off with friends and family, watching some fireworks, and very importantly, listening to music. There's no better way to celebrate than with some great tunes -- as even President Obama will be spending the evening taking in a White House concert performance from Janelle Monae and Kendrick Lamar this evening. As there will be many barbecues to soundtrack today, we've put together a Spotify playlist with some of our favorite summer records from 2016 so far.
Young Thug Earns First Platinum Single With "Best Friend"
By now, Young Thug has undeniably solidified his position within rap's top-tier. And he hasn't yet released his debut album, though some of his mixtapes have been put out for commercial release. Those tapes contained at least a few hits each, though surprisingly, Thug had never released a platinum single until just now, as the RIAA has now confirmed that his Slime Season track "Best Friend" has moved 1,000,000 copies.
The Best Hip Hop Songs (On Spotify) Of June 2016
ICYMI: HNHH recently launched a Spotify playlist called FIRE EMOJI: The Hottest Hip Hop Songs Right Now. The 40-track playlist is updated on a daily basis. It lives on Spotify and thus is inherently imperfect, because not all supa-hot hip hop songs have been added to Spotify (e.g. those recent ScHoolboy Q releases). Still, the playlist is generally representative of the best new releases in hip hop.
The Top 20 Projects Of 2016 (So Far)
In the midst of a year that was already challenging peoples' definitions of mixtapes, albums, and "free" projects, Chance The Rapper asked, "Am I the only n*gga who still cares about a mixtape?" On the surface, it made sense-- Chance is one of the few top-tier artists who've never sold a single copy of his internet-only projects-- but as his latest, Coloring Book, was released exclusively via a deal with Apple Music, both his independent claim and the definition of "mixtape" were subsequently scrutinized.
Future & Young Thug: A Brief History
Future and Young Thug's triumphant studio summit earlier this week signaled the beginning of a new, tenuous era of peace and prosperity in the relationship between two of Atlanta's most popular rappers who have quarreled in the past, perhaps bothered by the traits their music shares in common: the prioritization of rhythm, cadence, and emotional tenor over lyrical content.
Future & Young Thug Were In The Studio Together Last Night
On DJ Esco's new mixtape, Esco Terrestrial, Young Thug and Future surprised fans with their first collaboration since tension arose between the two earlier this year. Of course, with these kind of releases, it's never clear how recently anything has been recorded, or whether or not the artists involved were actually in the studio together. Either way, the song's existence alone seemed to indicate the two had patched things up, and that seems to be confirmed with news of an exciting studio session that went down Monday night.
Watch Every BET Awards 2016 Performance
Sunday night's BET Awards was one of the show's best iterations in years. Performers included Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Usher, Young Thug, Future, Bryson Tiller, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, French Montana, & Anderson. Paak -- and that doesn't even include any of the Prince tributes, which were bountiful and glorious. Sadly, the scheduled D'Angelo Prince tribute never came to pass. Otherwise, the show was nearly flawless.
