Rumors of Wyclef's potential bid for the Haitian presidency are set to become reality on Thursday, Aug. 5, when the former Fugees star makes his official announcement on CNN's 'Larry King Live.'

Last month, Jean revealed to CNN that he had already filled out the required paperwork to run for president, and this week former Haitian parliamentary leader, Pierre Eric Jean-Jacques confirmed the news. Jean-Jacques told AP that Jean was set to run as part of his new Ansanm Nou Fo coalition -- which translates to "together we are strong" -- for the upcoming November 28 election.

"Yes, we have am agreement [with Jean]. But he's the one who has to announce it first," Jean-Jacques said.

Wyclef's intention to run for the Haitian presidency doesn't come as a big surprise considering recent events. Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti on January 12 -- which killed over 220,000 people -- Jean and his Yele Haiti Foundation have raised millions in aid for the country. And in addition to his recovery efforts, the 37-year-old musician, who was born outside of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, but later moved to Brooklyn, NY, has continued to be an outspoken advocate about the need for social reform in the country

Dozens of other candidates are expected to run in this year's presidential election, including Jean's uncle, Raymond Joseph, who currently serves as Haiti's ambassador in Washington.

Wyclef is scheduled to make his official announcement on 'Larry King Live' on Thursday, Aug. 5, at 9 p.m.
