Less than 24 hours after police officers shot and killed 37-year-old black man Alton Sterling on Baton Rouge, LA, a Minnesota cop fatally shot 32-year-old Phlando Castile, also a black man, at at traffic stop on Wednesday night.

The Game is a man of contradictions. His long-awaited follow-up to 2005's The Documentary begins with the Compton rapper hopping out of his car to bust some heads, and ends with a cheery hook sung by will.i.am and Fergie that sounds like it belongs in a Mary Kate & Ashley movie set in Los Angeles. In between, he's all over the place, sometimes slipping up with his lyrics, collab choices, or subject matter, but more often than not giving us some of his best material in years.

The decidedly West Coast rapper is even willing to reach out to the figurehead of the label that was once at the forefront of the East Coast sound -- though he only grants him a speaking role.  "Standing On Ferraris" didn't budge in its second week on the charts, holding strong at #10.

This year, French Montana has seemed to focus more on mentoring younger artists like Chinx and Lil Durk than on his own music, but that's soon to change. Speaking with MTV yesterday while standing next to Durk, Montana revealed that his next album, Mac & Cheese 4, is scheduled for release in November.

Pharrell and will.i.am have been in the midst of possibly the silliest legal battle of all time over the last year or so. The disagreement began with will.i.am's claim that Pharrell's "i am OTHER" title was "confusingly similar" to his own artist name. Pharrell responded cleverly to the Black Eyed Peas frontman's claims in the following statement.

Will.i.am and Pharrell have been beefing legally over Pharrell's i am OTHER brand being too similar to Will's copyrighted "I AM" phrase. There was a misunderstanding at first that Will was actually suing Pharrell over the matter, when he had just filed a notice of opposition-- but now someone is indeed suing, and it's not Will.i.am, it's Pharrell.

Well, this is strange, but typical in the music industry. Will.i.am has filed a notice of opposition against Pharrell's "i am OTHER" brand for utilizing "I AM," a phrase he says he has copyrighted, and on top of this, Pharrell's logo is "confusingly similar," according to court documents. 

The new entries keep coming in on Charts Don't Lie. Recent weeks have seen quite a few releases that are within the hip-hop realm, as is often the case, because rappers like to release projects on the same day. This week, however, the new-comers to the charts don't come in as strong as you might think. Pop-friendly rapper Will.i.am moved under 30k for opening week with his solo album #willpower. This is suprising when you think the target market for Will.i.am is definitely the mainstream and thus the numbers should reflect that.

Snoop Dogg and Will.i.am's respective albums were released this past week, and both the OG rapper and mainstream artist are not looking like they'll be selling vast amounts in their first week.

Will.i.am's new album, #willpower, officially dropped five days ago, but the rapper is already in trouble over some of his production credits, or lack-there-of.
