There are certainly a lot of rappers experimenting with melody in Atlanta right now. However, now that Future has abandoned robotic love ballads for lean-soaked musings, ATL rap has taken a darker turn, colored by screeching 808 Mafia sirens rather than hummable hooks. Villa is keeping the brighter side of Atlanta alive with his new single, "Futuristic Boy," taking a more reserved and nuanced vocal approach than many of his singing peers.
It actually sounds more like a deep cut from Ty Dolla $ign's Beach House more than anything out of ATL, using electronic sounds (provided by producer Richie Souf) to create a warm and breezy mood, which Villa then injects some major ~feels~ into. Look out for his upcoming project, Vertical, out October 21st.
Travelling city to city
Your ass fat, your waist itty-bitty
You move it like someone is filming
But I won't record it
I'll store it in memory
