It won't come as a huge surprise, or really any surprise at all, that Sony's recent Venom now has a confirmed sequel. The movie wasn't anyone's idea of a critical success (it got only 28% on Rotten Tomatoes), but it did the one thing it was supposed to do: make a lot of money. It's currently sitting at $855 million, only $30 million less than another recent movie in the Spider-Man universe, Spider-Man: Homecoming, which was by all accounts a much better movie.

The new venom will have many of the same people behind it. Tom Hardy will return as Venom/Eddie Brock and Michelle Williams will reprise her role as his love interest Anne Weying. The writer of the the first movie, Kelly Marcel, will also be coming up with script number 2, which is either a red flag or an opportunity for a second chance, depending how you look at it.

Those who stayed through until the credits will already be aware of the most important addition to the next movie in the form of an unexpected but perfect casting choice. When Eddy Brock goes to visit a guy in prison, after the main action of the film, a curly-headed Woody Harrelson delivers the closing line: "when I get out of here, and I will, there's gonna be carnage."
