Cozz- I Need That
Cozz is relatively new face when it comes to the hip-hop blogosphere, but he’s already managed to make a splash with his music video/single “Dreams”, and now this past week again with “I Need That.” Although Cozz is working on his first official project, Cozz & Effect, due out April 14th, the South Central native already has a strong grasp on a distinct sound and style, something which rising rappers can struggle with for years (and perhaps he already did). Over a winding track Cozz raps about what he may or may not need: your feedback is one of the things he does not need, while good weed is one of the things he does need. All the while, he shines some light on what it’s like to live in LA and not be a gangbanger— “Still leave the crib and make sure I don't forget the knife/The knife got me feeling like I'm Superman/But prayin' I don't run into a Cryp tonight/That orange Nike sign looking red in a different light/Niggas rather kill than fight.”
Jamie xx- Sleep Sound
We may have very well featured the earlier version of this track, circulating in November as “Untitled”, in a past edition of Underrated Audio. However, it deserves to be highlighted once more, because once more the producer was slept on when he released his (no pun intended) “Sleep Sound” single. The record is soothing, lush and melodic, and could very well be something you’d like to play before snoozing off. On May 5th, Jamie xx will be releasing this single with a B-side titled “Girl.”
ProbCause- LSD Feat. Chance The Rapper (The Hood Internet Remix)
ProbCause decided to revisit his “LSD” record with the Chancellor this past Friday by enlisting Chicago remix group The Hood Internet give it a new spin. While the original version was slightly more trippy, more jazzy, more upbeat, this one has been toned way down. It may be even better than the original, with a more simplistic beat and a chilled out feeling. It also does a good job of highlighting the original which may have slipped under many people’s radars.
After quite a lengthy hiatus, Phreshy Duzit has finally returned to the music scene, now going by the name Amir Obé. With the new name came a new record off his forthcoming project (which has kept the title of Detrooklyn). “Jay Z, Kanye, Esco” is a long record, and seems to be Amir’s stream of conscious thoughts put into rhymes, over production from NYLZ. The first leak we received off Detrooklyn, “Detroit Cartier”, was almost a year ago, and was well-received at the time. This one seems to be no different for the fans that did hear it, although it didn’t break 10k views.
K. Camp- Just Listen Freestyle
While the weekends are definitely a slower period for HNHH and the internets in general, last Sunday rising rapper K. Camp, (who recently signed to Interscope), decided to give the web some buzz with a random fun freestyle. The record is definitely a little something you can turn up too, or possibly listen to while you prepare yourself for a night of turning up, as it has upbeat production while Camp talks his shit. Just listen.
HNHH's "Underrated Audio" puts you on not-too-mainstream music you might have missed from the past week.
Underrated Audio aims to provide you with some dope looks from the last seven days, that flew under most peoples' radars. While they may have received front-page placement on HNHH, they didn't get as many views as they deserve, so we shine a little more light on them right here.
Although we missed a week last week, this week we've returned with five choice cuts that were slept on recent times. From rappers who just inked a deal, like K. Camp, to fresh-faced MCs who remain unsigned, like Cozz, we've got you covered with multiple different styles in this week's edition of Underrated Audio.
