L’Orange- Need You Feat. Blu
L’Orange creates a great instrumental for the not-often-seen-or-heard MC, Blu. “Need You” has an soulful feel thanks to a looped sample, and a bit of jazz feel thanks to the piano riffs incorporated through out. Blu has the perfect voice to flow over such a beat, and he laces it with wordplay, metaphors, and generally dope rhymes. This definitely has our interest peaked for L’Orange’s project The Orchid Days, due out April 8th.
Kaytranada- Kaleidoscope Love (Remix)
Kaytranada is not a producer you may be very familiar with at this point (hence Underrated…), however, that will probably change in the near future as the Montreal native has production on the forthcoming Mobb Deep reunion album, and continues to expand his repertoire by working with different rappers. As of now, he might be most well-known for his remixes, and this is one of them, which arrived mid-week. The original track by AlunaGeorge was much more busy, loud and upbeat, while Kaytranada pairs it down for an ill late-night-worthy record. He keeps a snippet of the vocals on a loop and adds some synths, letting you vibe out for more than five minute straight.
This past week we received a brand new single from the Minnesota underground duo known as Atmosphere, personally one of my favorite hip-hop duos of all freaking time. So, it was inevitable they would make their way on to Underrated Audio, because as a rule, Atmosphere are underrated. Slug and Ant are prepping an album called Southsiders, which sounds pretty gangster off that bat; hopes are high. The very first single is “Bitter”, for which Ant created a pretty modern sounding beat, proving that Atmosphere are adapting quite nicely to their contemporary rap peers. As per usual, Slug comes correct on the mic, creating the perfect ode to everyone that’s salty.
Deniro Farrar- Burning Bills Feat. Lunice
Charlotte, NC native Deniro Farrar is prepping a new Rebirth EP, and dropped this new single off it, with assistance on the boards from rising producer/Montreal native Lunice. Deniro’s chopped and screwed vocals are mixed in during the chiming instrumental, creating the dark sound that Deniro has been developing over the years. The song content is equally dark, as Deniro raps about burning bills and selling souls, repeating “let it burn” on the hook.
HNHH's "Underrated Audio" puts you on not-too-mainstream music you might have missed from the past week.
Underrated Audio aims to provide you with some dope looks from the last seven days, that flew under most peoples' radars. While they may have received front-page placement on HNHH, they didn't get as many views as they deserve, so we shine a little more light on them right here.
If you check the site every day, you know there was a bit of drought when it comes to VERY HOTTTTT records, but all that changed this past week, as basically every single day we had a bunch of VERY HOTTTTT cuts going up. Despite several of the tracks on this list receiving a good look on the homepage, they still didn't get enough love.
