Ro Ransom- Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing
Ro Ransom is slowly returning to the blogosphere with leaks leading up to his mixtape Ro Ransom Is The Future. The second one we’ve received in recent times arrived at the end of this week -- a “hidden freestyle” as Ro calls it -- finds the pro wrestling fanatic dropping solid bars (“I imprison the beat”) about life in general: haters, being different, R. Kelly stealing his beat, and more. All this and he keeps his flow inventive, with a little bit of sing-song on the hook.
Two-9- Money Counter
Before Two-9 blow up, get familiar. The Atlanta crew of duos plus one singular dude just officially signed to Mike WiLL Made It’s Ear Drumma imprint this past week, and with that they celebrated by dropping the song “Money Counter”, drawing a comparison from the counting of cash to a chopper. It’s catchy, bouncy and even if it may not be their breakout single, we have a feeling that’ll happen soon enough anyways.
Marc E. Bassy- Relapse Feat. Iamsu!
We were a bit late to throw up Marc E. Bassy’s new mixtape Only The Poets, but we’re glad we finally did ‘cause it’s got some low-key r’n’b jams, namely, “Relapse” with Iamsu! Marc sings over a bubbling beat about a girl he never tires of, comparing her love to a drug addiction (a very familiar metaphor), while ‘Su’s relaxed flow goes perfectly with the beat. Go grab the mixtape here if you’re interested.
Bizzy Crook- The Come Up (Prod. By Boi-1da)
Yes, many of you clicked on this record simply because Boi-1da’s name was attached. That’s cool though, the beat bangs, and is definitely one of the main attractions to the record. Hard-hitting production filled with victorious horns and a grumbling bass sets the backdrop for Bizzy’s raps, as he promises he’s on his way up. Way up.
M.O.P. don’t release shit every day like the rest of the internet-age rappers, but they came through with heat this past week on “187”, containing an ill sample from Tears For Fears' “Head Over Heels.” The light piano keys contrast the grittiness of M.O.P., as they throw shade at all the molly poppin’ going on, and give us some good ol’ hard-hitting bars about a killing in progress. Production comes from Fizzy Womack and we can thank DJ Premier for the scratches.
HNHH's "Underrated Audio" puts you on not-too-mainstream music you might have missed from the past week.
Underrated Audio aims to provide you with some dope looks from the last seven days that flew under most peoples' radars. While they may have received front-page placement on HNHH, they didn't get as many views as they deserve, so we shine a little more light on them right here.
For this week's selection of Underrated Audio, we look to rap collective Two-9 (who just inked a deal this past week with Ear Drummers/Interscope), singer Marc E. Bassy, Miami native Bizzy Crook, veteran duo M.O.P. and more.
Take a look through the songs and let us know what you think down below, as per usual.
