SBTRKT- New Dorp, New York Feat. Ezra Koenig
SBTRKT announced a new album this past week, and with that he debuted a new single “New Dorp, New York.” It’s a groovy yet still futuristic/electronic jam from SBTRKT, with Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig handling additional vocals on the record. The record is a flurry of hollow, metallic sounds and screwed up vocals, basically everything we could ask for from the UK artist. The song will live on SBTRKT's upcoming sophomore LP Wonder Where We Land.
Young Buck- Getting Back
Young Buck been getting back indeed. The rapper has definitely experienced his fair share of struggle the past few years, what with jail time and going bankrupt, but now that G-Unit is back together things are looking up for Buck. Honestly Buck’s verses have been a highlight off the G-Unit freestyles, at least for me, and so a solo mixtape cut like this one is welcome.
Suspect- Sus & Lynch Feat. Brotha Lynch Hung
If you’re on HotNewHipHop errrday (as you should be), then you probably noticed we dropped one new Suspect track a day last week, for Sus’ #WeekOfSuspect. The week ended on a high note, with a dope beat from Brotha Lynch Hung and Persyce. As the title indicates, it’s all about these two and their plan to takeover. The beat keeps things interesting changing from hard to light mid-way with the introduction of airy piano keys.
Punch- A Project Mind Feat. Jay Rock & BJ The Chicago
TDE’s own president also has a rap talent, which is not-so-hidden as he’s been dropping a track or two lately. On Friday he hit us with a new cut featuring Jay Rock and BJ The Chicago Kid, and despite it not sounding completely mastered as astute commenters pointed out, it’s still a very nice listen. Powerful lyrics paint a picture of what the projects are like, while the soulful production and BJ The Chicago Kid’s soft vocals add to the feeling.
HNHH's "Underrated Audio" puts you on not-too-mainstream music you might have missed from the past week.
Underrated Audio aims to provide you with some dope looks from the last seven days that flew under most peoples' radars. While they may have received front-page placement on HNHH, they didn't get as many views as they deserve, so we shine a little more light on them right here.
In this week's instalment, we've got a mix of electronic and hip-hop. Young Buck announces he's "Getting Back", while TDE's president Punch steps into the spotlight for a minute to drop off a new record. SBTRKT unleashed his new album single, and we got a week-long series from Kansas City rapper Suspect.
