The Underachievers- 6th Sense
I’ve only recently become familiar with the rap duo known as The Underachievers. The young’ns who hail from New York dropped their debut mixtape, Indigoism, last week, and it seemed to have been very well-received on the site. This was one of the songs on the tapewhich is a standout-- with a dope beat and strong lyrics from either emcee(who, not to mention, have a great chemistry together). We’ll be seeing more of these cats in the future.
So therewere two possible Connor tracks I wanted to include in UA, and this one won, because Connor really sounds hungry on the cut. He spits some crazy lines over the Wu-Tang instrumental, and so quickly paced that you’ll miss the subtleties in his words if you’re not paying attention. “Told me to write a sixteen, I walk out the booth with a murder case...”
Lola Monroe and her boyfriend, rapper King Los, seem to make a good team which is nice seeing as their planning to release a joint mixtape. It’s a good balance on the song, but I still think Lola has growth to do to become more of her own person and not just a female rapper who uses other people’s flows. But this ain’t half bad.
Mistah F.A.B.- What Huey Told Me
Mistah F.A.B. is the kind of rapper who is consistently dropping music throughout the week, yet I don’t really give him that many listens. On the off-chance I do, I’m usually surprised. I guess I should start listening to him more, but it’s just like that sometimes. Anyways, on this cut he lays down some knowledge and manages to make it interesting, with a nicely-sampled beat and lyrics. It’s all in celebration of Black History Month.
HNHH's "Underrated Audio" puts you on not-too-mainstream music you might have missed from the past week.
The past week has brought a bunch of new mixtapes, including personal favorites from Curren$y and CyHi. I'm glad to see Spitta back on his rapping shit and choosing quality beats once again. And although Pusha T's latest effort kind of fell short for me, it will nonetheless still get plays. So although we've got a bunch of quality mixtape music on deck at the moment (it seems to always happen like that-- you get all your favorite music at once), here are four more jams that each got around 3,000-11,000 views. A few more views wouldn't hurt.
