Sir Michael Rocks- Memo
If you’re a fan of this Cool Kids rapper, you’ve probably been waiting awhile for any sign of Mikey’s debut album BANCO. Well, it finally happened on Monday when Sir Rocks dropped the very first single off BANCO—proving it is really on the way (hopefully). With “Memo” the Chi-town native once again proves his uniqueness in a game filled with copy cats. Mikey continues to evolve, and while we were unsure at one point time what direction that would be in, this sounds like a dope direction. Reooow!
Atmosphere- Color In The Snow feat. DeM AtlaS, Joe Horton & Toki Wright
Atmosphere aren’t a duo who pop up on HotNewHipHop too frequently—not because we don’t care, but because they don’t release too much stuff these days. Nonetheless, a flicker of hope occurred the other week when Atmosphere retweeted Eddie Sancho (a mixer/engineer) saying that the Atmosphere album was done. That’s a pretty clear message that there’s a new LP from Rhymesayers Slug and Ant on the way. If only we knew when. Either way, Slug dropped this Christmas-y joint for free at the end of the week, and while it’s not necessarily the kind of Atmosphere track we’re fiending for, it’s nice enough. It has a feel good vibe, with appearances from a recent Rhymesayers signee named DeM AtlaS.
Murs- Christmas Rules Everything Around Me
It’s been a minute since Murs was featured on Underrated Audio, and as we are approaching Christmas, it’s only appropriate we include another holiday-themed record in this edition. Murs declares himself a lover of Christmas, and regardless of the fact that it’s corny and silly, he dropped this joint to get in the spirit.
Asher Roth- Pot Of Gold (Prod. By Blended Babies)
This isn’t exactly what we expected from Asher Roth on first listen—he kicks off the track with singing. Nonetheless it works, and is Asher’s first offering since announcing a new album Retro Hash for 2014. The Blended Babies production features a guitar riff and other live instrumentation as Asher searches for the “Pot of Gold.”
Clams Casino- Haunt
Clams Casino decided to drop his third Instrumental Mixtape on Wednesday of this past week without warning. The free tape featured previously released tracks that Clams had produced as well as some unheard ones, like “Haunt” above. The beat is typically Clams, with a dark and foreboding tone, as well as plenty of static noise which seems to be an effect the producer is fond of, as it occurs throughout the instrumental mixtape.
HNHH's "Underrated Audio" puts you on not-too-mainstream music you might have missed from the past week.
With Christmas approaching soon, everyone is getting into the holiday spirit-- rappers included. On this week's edition of Underrated Audio you'll find two themed tracks that are perfect for the holidays, as well as two other joints that you should feel free to bump any time of the year.
As per usual, these are records that we think deserve another view or two. Give them a click and let us know what you think.
