Mick Jenkins—Keep It 100 Feat. YC The Cynic
We just can’t get enough of Mick Jenkins here at HotNewHipHop. The rapper flooded us with new music when he dropped The Water[s], and as if the quality and quantity on that wasn’t enough, he returned this past week with a loosie that’ll appear on DJ Ricky Dubs’ upcoming EP. Mick is definitely one to keep it 100, and he does just that over a dope, somewhat muffled piano key beat that’s completed with scratches. Not to be lyrically outdone, YC the Cynic does his thing too.
Bizzy Crook—Take Your Bitch Feat. Lloyd
We premiered this record earlier in the week, one of two Bizzy Crook cuts that we let go, actually. This one was definitely the standout though, as Bizzy nabs vocal assistance from singer Lloyd for the hook of “Take Your Bitch.” Bizzy comes in after Lloyd’s smooth ass intro and drops some bars, while still trading a few lines with Lloyd. The production is key too, with sped up female vocals looping in the background.
Tree— Bang Bang
One of the most overlooked, up-and-coming raspy-voiced rappers made a return last week, Tree. MC Tree hasn’t popped up on the radar for a minute now, but usually when he does drop something it’s considered highly underrated (at least in our books). Thus, we present to you “Bang Bang.” It’s a sample we’ve heard used time and time again, but Tree’s voice helps make it new again. The story about how he got the beat is one we’ll let you read for yourself here.
Your Old Droog—Sleepers… (Prod. By Larry Fisherman)
Well, there are not too many #facts out there about Your Old Droog, although it’s pretty well-known at this point that many people thought he was Nas in disguise, and that, that is untrue. The similarities in voice and cadence are obvious, however according to Complex, Droog is a “Russian kid from Brooklyn.” Whoever he may or may not be, he is quickly making a name for himself on the blogs, and connected with Mac Miller’s alter ego last Sunday for organ key production on “Sleepers…” He drops minimal information about himself on the record, closing it out by saying “I haven’t even made sense of it all.” Us neither, but we can appreciate the music.
HNHH's "Underrated Audio" puts you on not-too-mainstream music you might have missed from the past week.
Underrated Audio aims to provide you with some dope looks from the last seven days that flew under most peoples' radars. While they may have received front-page placement on HNHH, they didn't get as many views as they deserve, so we shine a little more light on them right here.
This past week proved to be a pretty good one for those VERY HOTTTTT songs, with new music from Chris Brown, Future, Jeezy, Tinashe, G-Unit, T.I., Run The Jewels, Tyga, Travi$ Scott and the list goes on (as if those names weren't enough). Today we're taking a break from those big drops to highlight a few records that flew under the radar, from our favorites like Mick Jenkins to more mysterious MCs like Your Old Droog.
