The Underachievers have solidified themselves as two of the Beast Coast's pivotal lyricists. Though they largely remain cult heroes, AKTHESAVIOR and Issa Gold have proven time and time again that their versatility deserves respect. Now, with a new album called After The Rain scheduled for November 9th, The Underachievers have come through with their new, Mello-assisted single, "Evil Things." Immediately, a softer tone is established, by way of a smooth BrassTracks instrumental.

Lyrically, both Issa and AK are slightly subdued, though no less potent in their delivery. "It ain't my fault that I got lit and you continued ridin'," raps AK, "they say you get it in due time, for you I think they lying." Clearly, the single stems from a place of hurt, possibly even betrayal. Yet there lacks any sense of venom or spite, suggesting that the boys have moved on. "Thinking about the past make looking forward mighty distorted," raps Issa, "can't create a new world if your vision is out of focus."

Stay tuned for After The Rain, landing on November 9th.

Quotable Lyrics

It's a thin line between just letting your past destroy you
Or to learn from what happened and find the strength to move forward
Thinking about the past make looking forward mighty distorted
Can't create a new world if your vision is out of focus
