This week we see Tyga make an entry onto the charts, while Tyler, the Creator, whose album dropped last week, fell quite a bit from his impressive #3 debut. Tyga's Hotel California is definitely a venture into the more typical sound that has defined Tyler's career, with plenty of DJ Mustard-esque beats and the accompanying flow. However, maybe this signature sound isn't the signature fans are looking for after all. The album debuted at #7, which is not as good as his last LP, Careless World.

This week we see a new entry in Chart's Dont Lie, with Tyler, the Creator's WOLF having dropped on April 2nd. The rapper is definitely expanding his fanbase, with this album impressively debuting at #3 on the Billboard 200. Tyler has been known for extreme and controversial lyrics, which may have made him less accessible to the general public in the past. Now it seems like the public is getting desensitized to the rambunctious rapper, or perhaps it's that the OF member is becoming more radio-friendly and mainstream-- what do you think?

Tyler, the Creator along with the rest of Odd Future have sometimes been labeled as homophobic because of some of their controversial raps. Nonetheless, Tyler has been supportive of his OF affiliate, Frank Ocean, since he came out publicly and before then, so it would appear that, that labeling is incorrect.

In recent years there has been a movement of emcees who have a new approach to rap. Many are products of the internet, and they differ from past generations in that their style is not dictated by region, but rather their own creation. These rappers are changing the game by throwing it some curve balls, their creativity being an unpredictable force. These newcomers have a tendency to create their own movements, rather than arrive as part of a lineage, and incorporate a certain independent aesthetic when it comes to elements of the industry like videos, artwork and production.

Tyler, the Creator turns 22 today and with a discography three albums deep, countless songs he's produced for and (according to him) sixteen videos he's directed to date, it's hard to think of the Odd Future leader as being so young. His career has risen dramatically in the last two years and he continues to defy odds and critics alike with his explicit lyrics, alter-egos but overall genius.

Tyler, The Creator Says He Doesn't "Give A Fuck" About White People Using N-Word
    Feb 27, 2013 at 11:06am
Tyler, The Creator is a very free-talking individual, so it may comes as no surprise that he and his Odd Future affiliates do not care at all about White people using the word "nigga." In his usual form, the OF frontman jumped from topic to topic while speaking to Hot 97, and one topic which arose was the use of "nigga" by White people.
