Last year Lollapalooza had a headliner that would many most hip-hop fans weak at the knees, with both OutKast and Eminem on the bill. This year they do a 180, with absolutely no hip-hop headliner, although there are rap artists scattered throughout the three-day festival.

Shock value was everything for Odd Future when they were getting started. Whether donning ski masks and performing alongside possessed-looking girls on Jimmy Fallon, detailing ridiculously violent sexual encounters, or mixing seemingly-lethal drug cocktails in their music videos, the L.A. crew first got attention for their antics, in addition to their considerable talents.

Did the Internet break? No, but we certainly got a lot of things to tweet about just because of the power of one ass. Kim Kardashian's booty was displayed in its full, majesty force — along with other lady parts — on the latest Paper Magazine cover. If you haven't heard or seen it, our condolences: You're dead and you've spent the past few days in Twitter-less limbo.

From the beginning, Odd Future's taste has been as visible as their music. When they first hit the scene, we knew they hated west coast jerking trends, and loved The Neptunes and Adventure Time. Now with the Odd Future Carnival becoming an annual event, OF leader Tyler, The Creator gets to put his favorite stuff on a pedestal for a huge audience, so this year he made sure to bring one of his favorite acts (N.E.R.D) together on stage.

Violence isn't an odd topic in hip-hop music by any stretch of the imagination; there probably hasn't been a mainstream rap album to hit stores this year in which an emcee didn't at least threaten to kill someone. Gun violence and homicide are an epidemic in hip-hop. Cannibalism, torture, and crucification, on the other hand, are harder topics to come by.

Fall is next week. This means it's about to be that season where it's time to grind as the big album releases come through. Summer has been pretty tame, so you'd think some serious heat is on the way soon. Plus, Meek Mill gets out of jail in the fall.

This past week, Apple unveiled the iPhone 6 and iWatch at a highly-hyped conference in Cupertino, CA. But perhaps the biggest news story to emerge from the event was U2's surprise arrival to perform new material, announce a new album, and (surely the strangest part) inform iTunes users that the album was, at that very moment, in their libraries, free of charge.

    Sep 12, 2014 at 11:53 AM
The Odd Future brand continues to expand into arenas both likely and unlikely. They've got an expansive merchandise line, their own TV show, and their own festival, among other things. This latest move, an Odd Future radio station, isn't exactly unlikely, as obviously these are a group of musical cats. The crew has teamed up with DJ Skee's new DASH radio platform to host a 24/7 channel.
