Meet 23-year-old rapper Trizz, who has offered a haunting portrait of his stomping grounds in the Inland Empire with his new video to "Suburbia," a track off his September project LeatherFace 2. Though it may look like plain old "Suburbia" to outsiders, Trizz depicts his hometown as a cold and heartless place. Especially at night. The song is so West Coast it hurts. The raw, blaring effect of the rumbling bass and pitchy synths place the listener outside of L.A. in an area that's less polished and perhaps more chaotic.

There's little stylistic flourish with Trizz, but the reality he conveys with his deadpan raps is jolting enough. What's also scary is how numb Trizz has become to all the violence that lurks around him. The camcorder-style video follows him along for a late-night drive and also through extended periods of solitude in his empty house, where he pets an old terrier and pokes around at a drum machine. His effort to endure it all emerges as an inspirational takeaway.
