In the past twelve months, no one's had a weirder trajectory than Desiigner. First off, his debut single was introduced to the vast majority of rap listeners via another artist's album, which is almost unheard of; then that single, "Panda" went #1 on the Hot 100. He then preceded to release a tape that flopped with both listeners and critics, and a few weeks later, turn what began as an XXL Freshman freestyle into his second-biggest hit to date, "Tiimmy Turner." Last week he returned with a new track, and what do you know? It's now debuted at #1.
Quavo leads all artists with three appearances on this week's list, although two of his come alongside the other 2/3rds of Migos, and Big Sean, Takeoff, and Offset all finish with two apiece. New tracks barely missing out on this week's list include CyHi The Prynce's "Legend" (#11), Juicy J and Slim Jxmmi's "Gimme Gimme" (#13), Jacquees and Dej Loaf's "Deeper" (#14), and Nicki Minaj and Nick Jonas' "Bom Bidi Bom" (#15).
10. Kap G Feat. Quavo - No New Friends
Atlanta's Kap G has never made our Top Ten before, but last week he dropped "No New Friends" featuring Quavo, who's been no stranger to the charts in the past year. The result is good enough, both in terms of clicks and user approval (the latter of which currently sits at 86%) to nab Kap G his first Top Ten track. "No New Friends" debuts at #10.
9. Lil Uzi Vert - Uppin Downers
Last week, Lil Uzi Vert's "Uppin Downers" debuted at #2 despite clocking in with the worst approval rating of the week (39%). This week, the song remains in the top ten and jumps up a couple of percentage places in approval (now at 41%), but it's still quite a bit more unpopular than its closest runner-up, Kodak Black's song on the chart this week. In its second week out, "Uppin Downers" is down seven places from #2 to #9.
8. Waka Flocka - Was My Dawg (Gucci Mane Diss)
Despite releasing 16 loosies (many of them remixes) since the start of 2016, Waka Flocka hasn't graced a Top Ten of ours since the last week of 2015, when his "Down in the DM" broke into the list. Not surprisingly at all, this streak is broken by the most surefire Top Track-cracking tool known to HNHH: a diss track. Waka's "Was My Dawg" diss of his former label boss and friend Gucci Mane debuts at #8.
7. Big Sean Feat. Migos - Sacrifices (Prod. by Metro Boomin & Allen Ritter)
Big Sean's "Sacrifices" features Metro Boomin production, mixing from Savage Mode engineer Alex Tumay, and even an uncannily 21 avage-esque flow from Sean, but it somehow isn't a 21 Savage track. Luckily, Migos are on there, and they're some of the few artists in ATL matching 21's current buzz. This I Decided cut debuts at #7.
6. Kodak Black - I Need Love
Who could've guessed that Lil Yachty and Kodak Black, both of whom have enraged old heads with their invocation of rap legends, including but not limited to Notorious B.I.G., would both release versions of separate hip hop tracks from the late '80s in the same week? Yachty's take on Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock's "It Takes Two" wasn't quite as popular as Kodak's remix of LL Cool J's "I Needs Love" (probably because of Carly Rae Jepsen and Target's presence), but Kodak's still wasn't a huge hit, as it only garnered a 48% user rating. "I Need Love" debuts at #6.
5. Juicy J Feat. Wiz Khalifa & Ty Dolla $ign - Ain't Nothing
The Taylor Gang posse cut "Ain't Nothing" was one of two tracks Juicy J released last week, with the other being the aforementioned "Gimme Gimme," but as the former had a four day headstart on the latter, it was more of a lock to make the list this week. With "Gimme Gimme" sitting at #13, "Ain't Nothing" debuts at #5.
4. Migos - Dab of Ranch (Official) (Prod. by DJ Durel)
How hot are Migos right now? So hot that they can release a novelty track and it'll be more popular than the vast majority of songs that dropped the same week. Not good enough? Well, they also basically outed themselves as homophobes last week, and that didn't seem to affect their views, sales, or streams one bit. Now that's fame. "Dab of Ranch" debuts at #4.
3. Rick Ross - Summer 17
On January 30th last year, Drake released "Summer Sixteen," a track that forecasted his eventual dominance of that year's warm months with the commercial behemoth that was Views. Just nine days further into this year, Rick Ross follows suit with the similarly-titled "Summer 17." Will his forthcoming Rather You Than Me prove just as inescapable? I highly doubt it, but this is a good start. "Summer 17" debuts at #3.
2. Big Sean Feat. Eminem - No Favors
Big Sean's I Decided had big features across the board, from Migos to The-Dream to Jeremih, but undoubtedly the biggest came from his hometown's own Eminem on "No Favors." Rare bars from Slim Shady led to this track debuting at #1, and on its second week out, it's only down one spot to finish at #2.
1. Desiigner - Outlet (Prod. by Vinylz & SoundsbyCT)
G.O.O.D. Music's Desiigner has been pretty quiet since last summer's abysmal New English tape, but with a Spring tour on the horizon, the Brooklyn rapper shared a new track last week, and subsequently watched it rise to #1. "Outlet" is a high-energy banger with almost an EDM-style sound to it, and of course it contains plenty of Desiigner's signature ad-libs. This track debuts at #1.
